The story behind the poster

Big Brother and the Holding Company played at Detroit’s Grande Ballroom in this show presented by Russ Gibb, Detroit’s answer to “Bill Graham. Gary Grimshaw’s promotional poster featured an early image of Joplin and her band with popular botanical imagery framing the photo and text. The extra arm belonged to Pigpen.
